Finding 10 Investigators- Encontrar 10 Investigadores

Doble personalidad - Double Personality

This is Elder Read's "Epistle" from 20th October, so I'm gradually catching up.

They've had another good week!!  They have a baptism date, less actives attending church and investigators.  They're happy and this week they have a really large goal to find new investigators.  The mission as a whole has a target of finding 888+++, which means their target is to find 10.  They are going to do it, says Elder Read.

For P-Day on Monday they played football - and he really enjoyed it.  Although Elder Read says he's still not very good he put in a couple of goals, which was great.

Last Sunday something rather interesting happened.  They were walking towards an appointment and saw a drunk in the middle of the road intent on committing suicide.  There were lots of people watching, but the elders helped the drunk from the road and got him seated. They didn't leave until they were sure that he would be all right.

Nobody wanted to help the drunk. Another drunk said "Leave him alone, a Romanian less in Spain," which was daft as the man who said it was also Romanian!  The adversary has much power in this world, but Elder Read knows that the Lord will win.  He is winning and he's going to win. The truth is that he could do it on his own.  He doesn't actually need us, but for one reason or another he gives us opportunities to be his hands and his instruments.  Elder Read knows this is true.

Look at this carefully and you'll see that it's for sisters!

A Week of Miracles - Una Semana de Milagros

Sent by Elder Read on 13th October

One thing Elder Read learnt the previous week was never to put his fingers in boiling oil!  It was an accident and it hurt!!!
Duele...

It had been raining a lot and it even felt a little cold - 19 or 18 degrees!!  Since that feels cold, how's he going to cope when Her returns home in December??

Last Monday 13th October they were going to a Museum of the Inquisition, so we could be forgiven for thinking that he hurt his fingers there!  It costs 3 euros to get in so he was hoping it would be worth it.

At last they have found someone to teach.  The other day they passed a man sleeping on the ground, which suggested that he was poor and homeless.  Elder Pomazón continued walking on, but Elder Read felt that he should return and help the man, so he prayed in his head about how to help the man, while hearing the words "minister to thy brethren."  So they returned to see how the man was, but he didn't wake up, so it occurred to Elder Read to buy him something to eat.  There was a supermarket close by so they went and bought something - a couple of sandwiches and a drink - and placed them beside the man with their card and phone number.  From past experience they really didn't expect to see that man again.

However, just half-an-hour later He phoned them!  His name was Jon and was a very humble man.  On the Friday they taught him and his friend and invited them both to be baptised. And they accepted so a date is going to be arranged very soon. Elder Read says that Jon is very good and sincere and all he wants to do is to serve God.  On the Sunday he arrived at church just as they were finishing, but they were expecting him to arrive on time the following week.

The Lord expects us to help others whenever we can, so Elder Read asks us to seek the opportunity to do so.

Pan - Bread

19 o18 grados. ¡ME DA FRÍO!

Solo quieren servir a Dios.

Enjoying Conference and Mission - Disfrutando Conferencia y Misión

The photo of Elder Read with the Elder and Sisters is part of his mission family: his grandson, his daughter and his granddaughter.  That makes him a grandfather!

Great missionaries come in all shapes and sizes.  Shown here are Elders Gutierrez, Orr and Narcizo.
You will remember Elder Read serving with Elder Orr.

Elder Read has had yet another good week - and they really enjoyed conference. They had permission to watch every session, with the result that they were at the chapel from 10 in the morning until midnight.  He took a load of notes.  President Deere invited the missionaries to go with two questions> Elder Read's were: "How can I raise this area in such a short time?" and "What does the Lord want me to do when I return home?"

It appeared that the answers were in practically every talk:
To the first question: work with the less-actives and contact really hard.
To the second: study and start a family.

Yesterday they went to eat with a member by the name of Emilio, who took them to Dominos.  Deeeeeelicious! says Elder Read.

In truth, Elder Read is really enjoying his mission and describes it as a marvellous thing.  He has to make the best use of this time while he has the authority which he'll never have in the same way again.  The Lord only gives them two years!  So he needs to make the best possible use of the time that he has.

Who remembers this?

Hey Let's all go to A&W
Food's more fun at A&W
We'll have a mug of root beer, or maybe two or three

QUEEE RICOOOOOO

He thinks this is the tidiest his desk has ever been on his mission!

A Successful Week - Una Semana con Exito

Elder Read and his new companion Élder Pomazón
.Élder Read y su nuevo compañero Élder Pomazón

Elder Read says they are walking a lot, which  caused his feet to bleed a little, although when he wrote on Monday they were fine. He calls that scars of war!! And he's also losing weight!  He gained quite a lot in Huércal-Overa as it was such a small area.  However, I also suspect that it had quite a lot to do with the food!

They are seeing a lot of success with the less-active members of the branch.  Last week the elders gave them 9 discussions, making 16 duscussions including investigators.  Apparently it's the best week the area has seen for an awful long time. There's much to do - and little time to do it!!

Last week Elder Read was reminded of England as it rained so much out there, which meant that his umbrella had to put up with a lot.

On Monday they played football again and he says that, as ever, he played badly; although he enjoyed it.

Élder Pomazón has been ill, which meant that they had to spend a day in the flat, but he appears to have recovered.

Elder Read then said he couldn't think of anything else to tell us but he does have these photos for us.

This photo is on the Mission blog with the following caption: "Elder Reid, Hermana Read and Hermana Reed messing with us again.  Too bad we didn't get Elder Read in this picture too!" So four missionaries Re(a_e_i)d in the mission!!!

Pues, hoy fuimos a jugar fútbol.
