Weekly Update from Elder Read - Noticias Semanales desde Elder Read

Elder Read has sent us some more photos, but without any captions!
Elder Read nos envió pero sin leyenda.
Here is Elder Read with Elder Rodriguez.  I am assuming that his companion Elder Wright swapped with Elder Rodriguez for an exchange, but I can't find out what area he's currently in.

Elder Read reports that he continues to be very happy although he's already worn out another pair of shoes due to all the walking that they're doing, so we've bought him another pair and they're on their way to Spain - at the post office:
.

Cooking in his flat sounds interesting.  They have just a little electric oven and no liquidiser although flats of other missionaries  have both a full oven and a liquidiser.  From what he's said, their flat sounds rather basic, but it serves their needs.

And Elder Read has given us the news that two new missions will be created in Peru: Huancayo and Iquitos. These are to cater for the influx of new missionaries due to the lowering of the age.  He also says that the Peru, Trujillo Mission has a new mission president.

We keep Elder Read abreast of news of the missionaries serving here as he is always pleased to hear how they are getting on, so he says how pleased he is to hear of their success.  The baptism of Tomas, Elder Read's first, draws ever closer, it being on Saturday 2nd March, and he's getting really excited about it, particularly as he now describes Tomas as being of pure gold!  They took him to stake conference last weekend, which he really enjoyed.  And now they have found a golden family.

As Huelva is close to the border with Portugal there are quite a lot of Portuguese there and, for this reason, Elder Read has asked us to send him a book he bought in Peru to enable him to learn Portuguese.  He's certainly keeping himself busy!

Dice Elder Read:

Where is he?

No, this isn't Elder Read, but while I prepare this blog see if you can spot him!
Esta foto tiene la leyenda:         This photo from the Mission blog carries the caption:
This one is even crazier.  On Tuesday afternoon Elder Rojas from Mexico called from the airport in Madrid, and wondered who was going to pick him up.  Hmmm...good question.  We got him on a fast train to Malaga, and Justin and I picked him up, since President Deere was teaching.  We love getting new missionaries, even if no one tells us they are coming and they are sent to the wrong airport!   Elder Rojas was a good sport about it all.    His trainer will be Elder Mambo, but his first companion was Justin!

Has anyone managed to spot Elder Read in the photo above?

Now for news of Elder Read    -  Ahora noticias de Elder Read

You'll recall that he was suffering from a cold but he now says he's feeling very, very much better and he believes that it's because he's been working so hard. He gives Elder Wilkosz, currently serving in Southampton, his regards, and hope that his cold is now better. He says we're always in his prayers.

You'll recall that Elder Read asked for recipes.  Does anyone have any Spanish ones, which would be better but English and Peruvian would be smashing.

They have a baptism on 2nd March - the golden investigator Tomas, who really has progressed very well.  There are also other investigators preparing for baptism, but each proceeds at his own pace.  Elders Read and Write are teaching better and working hard.  He really doesn't know what more to say but they are very well.

At the end of this week Seville Stake has its stake conference and he's very excited about it.  Last week they taught 20 discussions and they are getting better and better.  Cere Angel arrives in Málaga tomorrow.  Perhaps he'll see her!

One thing he says he doesn't do quite so well is food.  He prefers his Mum's cooking!  But he's very content and happy as always.

Cere Angel llega a Málaga mañana. De repente voy a encontrarla.
Una cosa que hecho de menos es... ¡¡COMIDA!!

Weekly Update - Noticias Semanales

First of all, here's some news from the Spain Málaga Mission.

President and Hermana Deere with Elder and Sister Teixeira during their visit last week.

11 missionaries arrived this week  from North and South America.  Elder Gutierrez from Peru had been waiting for 6 months!  President and Sister Deere are so glad he is finally here. 8 missionaries also went home last week.

Ademas 8 misioneros volvieron a casa.

Elder Read asks us to give his best wishes to the missionaries serving here in Southampton and, in particular, would Elder Nicholson please give his companion Elder Manga a birthday hug from Elder Read, as it was Elder Manga's 21st birthday yesterday.

Elder Read and Elder Wright are expecting to have a baptism in about two weeks and their golden investigator, who took them out to a Chinese restaurant (you remember?) last week, is wonderful.  His name is Tomas.  We shall watch his progress with great interest, particularly as the missionaries in our own ward are preparing to have baptisms.  It is very encouraging that the elders, both here and there, are finding people who really do want to listen to the message.

Elder Read assures us that he and his companion are eating the right things, but could you help, please?  Elder Read would like recipes!

Tomorrow Elders Read and Write are going to missionary training in Málaga and Elder Read is particularly looking forward to the food as Sister Deere's cooking is wonderful, he says.

News from Elder Read - Noticias de Elder Read

This is the photo I found when I looked on lds.org for directions to Huelva chapel but, as you can see, it just says "Address is approximate."
I think this is the chapel, which must be just round the corner:

Elder Read says he's got a bit of a cold but he's very happy.

The other day they had a miracle.  They received a referral from Madrid Temple so they contacted him and he turned out to be "a golden investigator."  He took them to lunch at a lovely Chinese restaurant - and he paid for them.  His name is Tomas.  He is Spanish but he's spent practically all his life in the USA, with the result that he prefers to speak in English, so that's what they do with him.

Elder Read says he's using English on his mission much more than he expected, in fact almost from the beginning although not in the MTC.  But they speak it in the Mission Home and in firesides and, of course, when they give English classes.

The conference with Elder Teixeira was wonderful and Elder Read learnt masses - too much to write.

In the Mission they all started reading the Book of Mormon on 1st February and will finish on 31st March.

News from the Mission:  Elder Teixeira visits the mission

What a week! Here's a little of what went on:  we sent two new Elders off to their areas, had Concilio here at the mission home with Elder Teixeira, baptisms, and had the first of two Zone Conferences with Elder Teixeira in Malaga.

Below are the elders in the District:

I have done some research on the Mission and have discovered that it covers five stakes, which are divided up as below   This will enable us to track Elder Read.  For instance, when he went to Aljeciras a couple of weeks ago we can so that it is a branch in the Cádiz Stake.
