HAPPY CHRISTMAS from Spain!

 

Do you remember that last week was a Week of Finding for the Mission?  The goal was 800?   Well, they found 847!!

It was a miraculous week.  With the help of the Lord Elder Read and Elder Metcalf had 9 new finds this week and 40 future ones.  They found a Romanian family while trying to contact another family. They were ringing the bell when a man came to the door to go to his house.  They spoke with him and asked if he had a little time.  The answer was yes and he invited them to enter. What a miracle!

 

 

 

As usual they are very content but at the same time very tired. Today they are excited to be going to Sevilla to see La Plaza de España - Spain Place - a beautiful building built for the 1929 World Fair. 

Again, he says that he's really well!

¡Fue una semana milagrosa! Con la ayuda del señor Élder Metcalf y yo encontramos 9 nuevos esta semana y 40 futuros :) Encotramos una familia Rumana mientras intentabamos a contactar otra familia. Llegamos a la timbra para timbrar y hubo un hombre quien llegó para abrir la puerta para irse a su casa. Hablamos con él y preguntamos si tenía un poco de tiempo. Nos dijo que sí y nos invito a entrar. ¡Que milagro! :D

Estamos super contentos y super cansados a la vez jaja :)  Hoy vamos a ir a Sevilla para ir a la Plaza de España, construida por la Feria Mundial de 1929. :) Estamos muy animados jaja :)

At last Elder Read had his camera, so he has sent us six photos on Monday. He actually said he's got loads to send but he system will only allow him to send three at a time.

 

 

As ever, all is going "super well" for him, but he says it's very unusual that four of his best friends in the mission have just gone home.

 

He wishes us a HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!

 

Elder Read is really excited about this week, but he wants to tell us about a miracle.  The other day he was praying before going to bed and his body was really aching because of all the hills they have to climb and also the speed at which they have to walk.  Anyway, as he prayed the pain left his body instantly!  On another occasion he felt a hand pushing him up a hill, but when he looked round there was nobody there!  He says:  "THE SAVIOUR HELPS US!"

 

He's pleased that last week was another good week.  The other day they were giving service in the bishop's allotment when they saw a man whose van had a puncture in one of its tyres.  He was working and had to take materials to a town 20 kilometres (12.5 miles) away, but  had to make two journeys and no longer had a van in which to do it.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Haciendo servicio hace dos semanas en el huerto de la Capilla. (decidimos hacer un agujero...), y día de acción de gracias :)   Doing a service project in the grounds of the chapel.



 

What followed was one of the biggest acts of service Elder Read had ever seen in his life.  The bishop lent the man his van, so he asked the elders to remove everything in it that belonged to him ad then he handed it over.  As the man had promised, he handed the van back when he had completed the two journeys and we were able to make good use of this by getting his number for missionaries to visit him.  It'll be other elders, but how wonderful!

 

Also last week they had an open day at the chapel in Seville where he met members form Huelva, one of whom was Elder Chacón's mother, Rosa Mari

Todod va super bien por aquí. Es super raro porque 4 de mis mejores amigos de la misión se acaban de ir a casa.

Bueno, que les puedo contar. Estamos MUY animados por la semana que viene. Quiero contarles un milagro!. El otro día estaba orando antes de ir me a cama y mi cuerpo estaba doliendo un montón. Como tenemos tantos pueblos y cuestas para subir y caminamos super rápido todo estaba doliendo. Oré para que el dolor fue quitado de mi cuerpo y al instante. A otro momento sentí una mano empujando me subiendo otra cuesta, miré hacia atras y no vi a nadie. ¡EL SEÑOR NOS AYUDA! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Adios a Élder Avilés

Me alegro mucho que han tenido una buenísima semana nosotros también :) EL otro día estuvímos haciendo servicio en el huerto del opispo. A la entrada vimos a un hombre que tenía un pinchazo en le rueda de so furgoneta.Él estaba trabajando y tenía que llevar materiales a un pueblo 20 kilómetros de allí, y tenía que hacer dos viajes y entonces no tenía en vehículu para hacer lo. Luego vi uno de los actos mas grandes de servicio que he visto en mi vida. ¡El obispo le prestó su furgoneta! Nos mandó a sacar todo que lo entregó a este hombre. Luego, como lo había prometido el hombre vino otra vez y deviolvió el vehículo. Entonces aprovechamos y sacamos su número para vistarle, nos dijo "me encantaría recibiros en casa" ¡YAY! Son para otros élderes pero que guay! :D

Tuvimos una jornada de puertas abiertas en la capilla de sevilla y vi a varios miembros de Huelva. :D Vi a Rosa Mari (la madre del Élder Chacón) y a otros miembros.

800 New Investigators?? 800 Nuevos Investigatores??

Elder Read says that fortunately they are well. But with a mass of stiff muscles due to all the walking! but it's worth it!!

Once more he can't send photos: This time because he forgot his cable to attach the camera to the computer!!  But next week......................  He hopes!  

He wishes Elder and Sister Hinman well as they finish their mission in Southampton.  They say they'll return when the time comes for him to get married.  He says it seems strange even to think about it!

Well, this week they have found various future investigators - 21 in all! But next week they are going to have a week of miracles.  Do you remember when they had the challenge for the mission to find 555 investigators in one week?  And they found 558!  Normally in their mission they average 250 finds in a week.

Well, next week they are going to have another week like that.  And they have a much higher goal.

So, next week they are going to find 800 +++++++ new investigators.  That's 8 per companionship.  It's perfect because they need more investigators!

They are very excited about this.  They are going to be working with the members a lot as they accompany them on discussions and give them referrals.  He asks if we think they can do it.  

Elder Read says Yes!!!  And judging by last time I'm sure he's right.

Yesterday when he wrote he said he thought that they would actually manage a siesta.  He says that every P-day but it doesn't happen.

They have a new baptismal date. The name of the investigator is Joaquín and he is a policeman.  He is really good and the date is for the 29th of this month.  

He has various friends who are finishing their missions today.  He says it's most unusual and all his friends are going which makes him feel old.  A few months ago Sister Deere called him Grandfather of the Mission!

Well, that's it.  The mission is the best.

 Bueno, esta semana encontramos varios futuros investigadores, 21 por ahí. ¡La semana que viene vamos a tener una semana de milagros!

¿Se recuerdan sobre la semana que teníamos el desafío de encontrar 555 nuevos investigadores en una semana? Logramos 558. Normalmente solemos encontrar 250 cada semana como una misión.

La semana que viene vamos a encontrar 800+++++ nuevos investigadores. Es 8 por compañerismo. Es perfecto porque necesitamos mas investigadores!

Estamos MUY animados. Vamos a estar trabajando con los miembros mucho para que nos acompañen a citas y para que nos dan referencias. ¿Creen que los podemos lograr?

Pues creo que voy a echar una siesta hoy. Siempre digo que voy a echar una los p-days pero nunca lo hago jaja :P

Tenemos una nueva fecha bautismal :) Se llama Joaquín y es policía nacional. Es super bueno :) Su fecha es para en 29 de este mes.  

Hay varios amigos que se van a casa mañana porque ya han terminado sus misiones. Es super raro.  ¡todos mis amigos de van! ¡me siento viejo! Hace algunos meses la Hermana Deere me llamó un abuelo de la misión jaja! 

Bueno, les dejo.  La misión es lo mejor :) 

One Year Today - Un Año Hoy Día

So Elder Read went on his mission one year ago today - and it seems like yesterday.

Unfortunately, he wasn't able to send any photos this week as the computer he was using wouldn't read his camera.  But he says he'll send a lot next week.  He thanks us for the parcel we sent him and says the chocolates are lovely.

He said that on Monday they were going into Seville itself and were going to visit what is known as the Tower of Gold, la Torre del Oro, and also Seville Cathedral.

Elder Read went to Sevilla once with Elder Wright and he loved it.  Unfortunately, however, he lost the photos he took last time so he was going to take loads this time to make up for it.  He's also lost his pendrive or memory stick and he's no idea where.  He's looked in the flat, in the chapel and even in members' cars, but it's possible that he left it in Seville chapel, so he was hoping that he would find it there on Monday.

There are two new missionary elders in the ward he's in, Élder Richardson from Georgia, USA, Y Élder Simon from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He's now having the opportunity to practise Portuguese as there is a Brazilian investigator who, he says, is really good, and they are hoping to arrange a date to teach her this week.  The other day he was speaking to her in Portuguese but they had to change to Spanish for the sake of his companion, whose Portuguese isn't very good, which isn't surprising. So the discussion was a mix of Spanish and Portuguese, which was rather entertaining!  He's got a copy of Preach my Gospel in Portuguese, so he studies that from time to time, which helps a lot as there are a lot of people in Spain who are Portuguese or Brazilian.

So all is going "super well"!!!  And next week he'll send the photos as he didn't manage to send them from the chapel as he was hoping on Monday.

Hoy no creo que voy a poder mandarles fotos porque la compu lo lea mi cámara. Pero la semana que viene sí les mandaré muchas fotos.

Hoy estamos en Sevilla. Vamos a ir a visitar una torre que se llama la torre de oro. Y también la catedral de Sevilla. fui una vez con el Élder Wright y me encantó. Perdí las fotos de la últimas vez entonces esta vez voy a tomar un montón de fotos.

También perdí mi pendrive. Tengo casi toda mis fotos y vídeos en ese pendrive. No ´se donde lo perdí. He buscado en el piso, en la capilla, en los coches de los miembros. Es posible que lo dejé en la capilla de Sevilla entonces voy a ver hoy si está allí. Espero que sí. 

Pues hay dos nuevos élderes misioneros en el barrio. Élder Richardson de Georgia, EE.UU. Y Élder Simon de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Son muy buenos :)

Estoy teniendo la oportunidad de practicar Portugués. Tenemos un investigadora Brasileña. Es muy buena y queremos poner una fecha con ella esta semana :) El otro día estuvimos hablando en Portugués, pero cambiamos al español para mi compañero, ademas mi portugués no es tan bueno. La charla también fue una mezcla de Portugués y Español.  Era muy divertido. Tengo un Predicad Mi Evangelio en Portugués entonces estudio eso de vez en cuando. Ayuda mucho, hay muchas personas que son brasileñas o portuguesas aquí en España. 

Pues todo va super bien y la semana que viene les mandaré las fotos :) Sí no en un poquito cuando voy a la capilla si puedo.  (No llegaron lunes!)

Elder Read wants to know how we have been getting on with placing Books of Mormon.Would anyone like to reply? He's pleased to have received our parcel and he can report that as usual all is well.  Elder Avilés will be transferred on Wednesday to Albacete in Castilla-La Mancha, where the language Castilian started. 

Elder Read says that this week they have to focus on finding.  Derek, the Baptist missionary, has sent then a message saying that the leaders of his church have forbidden Elders Read and Metcalf to meet with them, which is hardly surprising, but it makes Elder Read and his companion rather sad.  However, the other day they received a message from Brandon, another Baptist missionary, saying that he wants to meet with the LDS missionaries before he finishes his mission, and they hope they'll have the opportunity this week.

The cold has finally arrived in Seville - or what they call cold! They've been used to a temperature of about 38 degrees and now it's fallen to between 12 and 18 degrees.  He'll certainly feel the cold here when he returns home in a year's time! He says that temperature is very cold for him!  

The ward is really lovely. On Sunday they returned to the flat absolutely exhausted: physically, spiritually and mentally. We always pray that they'll have this strength.  His knees are fine despite the slight problem he had a week ago.

Yesterday they were going to a Family Home Evening with a family in their ward and two missionaries were coming from Cartagena so they were really looking forward to seeing them. 

Elder Read says it's going to be really difficult to say goodbye to Elder Avilés as he's become one of his best friends.  Anyway, it has been decided that Elder Avilés will collect him at the end of his mission, presumably to go with him to the airport.

Nueva agenda para un nuevo traslado

La agenda que tiene 'never give up' es de Élder Avilés. La otra es la mia. 

Elder Read dice:  ¿Que tal la semana? ¿Han podido hacer eso sobre los Libros the Mormón? Estoy animado para recibir ese paquete :D Todo va super bien por aca. Élder Avilés se traslada el Miércoles. Se va para Albacete en Castilla-La mancha, donde todo el Castellano empezó jaja :P Tenemos que enforcarnos en encontrar esta semana. Derek (el misionero bautista) nos mandó unn mensaje diciendo que los lideres de su iglesia han pedido que dejamos que reunirnos con ellos. La verdad es que nos posimos bastante triste. Pero el otro día recibimos un mensaje de Brandon (un otro misionero) deciondo que quería reunirse con nosotros antes que termina su misión. Espero que vamos a tener la oportunidad para verle esta semana.

El frío ha empezado aquí en Sevilla. Voy por la calle en chaqueta y bufanda. Hace muuuucho frío. Bueno, no tanto, 12 grados o 18. Pero ya que estoy acostumbrado a 38 grados mínimo. Hace mucho frió para mí jaja 

El barrio es super bueno. Ayer llegamos al piso SUPER cansados, físicamente, mentalmente y espiritualmente. (Siempre oramos que tendrán fuerza suficiente). Mamá, mis rodillas están bien a pesar de el problema de la semana pasada.

Hoy vamos a tener una noche de hogar con un familia de nuestro barrio. Dos misioneros de Cartagena vienen para Sevilla entonces estoy muy animados a ver los.

La verdad es que es super difícil despedirme de Élder Avilés. La verdad es que es uno de mis mejores amigos. Hemos quedado que me a venir a recogerme cuando termine la misión. El huerto de la capilla de ve mejor también :)

Baptisms, Investigators, Testimony and a Challenge - Bautizmos, Investigadores, Testimonio y un Desafio

Elder Read says they have a baptismal date! Also, Joao, one of his investigators in Cartagena, is going to be baptised next week and another young man he met in Cartagena is also going to be baptised. Seriously, he says, his mission is the best thing he has ever done and he thanks us for our help and preparation.  He doesn't know what else to say except that he's very fortunate.

It is worth pointing out that missionaries today are generally very well prepared, and it has always been intended that he should serve a mission.

Elder Metcalf

A very tired Elder Avilés - muy cansado

Elder Avilés is with them at the moment.  He is fine and he is helping them a lot. He has a lot of experience and goes home in three months.

Do you remember that last week they found four new investigators?  One is called Joaquín, the second Mario and the other two Derek and Tim.  You will recall that the latter two are missionaries for the Baptist Church, one from Louisiana and the other from Texas like Elder Metcalf.  They found them in the street and had an excellent lesson with them a few days ago. They had a lot of questions that the elders answered. In particular they wanted scriptures from the Bible that confirm our doctrine of the Restoration.  So the elders showed them and they were surprised at the number, for example:   Amós 3:7 (prophets); Amós 8:11-12 (the Great Apostasy  and Acts 3:21 (the Restoration).  Then the Baptist missionaries marked their scriptures.

Derek and Tim are young, like our missionaries: but slightly older at 26 and 24.  They know that God exists and have very strong testimonies of that.  They both prayed before going to Spain to know that they should go.  Elders Read and Metcalf wondered whether they had to go to Spain in order to meet LDS missionaries. Could that have been the reason?  They didn't want any further discussion or anything, after their questions, but just to listen to the elders teaching them the word of God, and Elder Read says they have become very good friends.

The Elders gave the Baptists a Book of Mormon each, inviting them to read it and pray to find out whether it is true, which they promised to do.  The Elders will visit them again this week. The discussion went on rather a long time and they were going to arrive home late, so Tim asked them to take his bike.  However, that was against Mission rules so they weren't able to - and Derek agreed that they had better not. Anyway, in Spain at 22.05, the roads are pretty dangerous.  The Spanish don't drive well!  So they ran as fast as they could and got back just four minutes late. Sometimes Elder Read's knee plays up but the Lord helped  him that night - and never had they run uch a distance so fast!

Elder Read has written a new song!  It's from the perspective of an investigator and he was going to record it on Monday and hopes to send it to us. After his mission he'll add harmonies and more instruments, but he thinks it's fine for now.

TESTIMONY Elder Read says:
"I just want to say that I KNOW that this is the true church. It all depends on the Book of Mormon. If the Book of Mormon is true, then Jesus Christ is the Saviour of the World, Joseph Smith was a Prophet and Thomas S Monson IS a prophet, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true Church and the Saviour will soon return. (Introduction to the Book of Mormon, last paragraph).

Whatever doubt you may have, read the Book of Mormon. It's the key to our religion.  If it's true - and it is - this work is the most important in the world, and God directs it. If it's not true - and again I know it is - then it's the biggest fraud in the whole world.

And now a challenge for us:
Ask the missionaries for 5 Books of Mormon, write our testimonies in them and this week give them out, challenging the people to read it for themselves and discover that it is true.

 Tenemos una fecha bautismal!!! :D Y uno de mis investigadores de Cartagena de va a bautizar la semana que viene (Joao)  y un joven que encontré en Cartagena se bautizó :D (creo que ya les conté eso pero.... YAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D D :D :D :D ) Jeje :P La misión es la mejor cosa que he hecho en serio. Quiero agradecer les por su ayuda y preparación. No sé que decir mas jaja :P Solo es que estoy MUY feliz.(Tengo que decir que los misioneros de hoy son en general muy bien preparados, y siempre ha sido la intención por nuestro hijo a servir una misión).  Élder Avilés ya está con nosotros. Está contento jaja. Nos está ayudando mucho. Tiene mucha experiencia, se va a casa dentro de tres meses.

Acuerdan ustedes que la semana pasada encontramos a 4 nuevo investigadores?. Uno se llama Joaquín, otro Mario y los otros dos Derek y Tim. Son misioneros Bautistas. Uno de Louisiana y el otro de Texas (como mi compañero jaja :P)  Les encotramos en la calle y tuvimos una charla buenísima con ellos hace algunos dias. Tenian muchas preguntas. Las contestamos. Luego querían ver escrituras para apoyar nuestra doctrina de la restauración. Y les mostramos. fueron sorprendidos que muchas de las escrituras se encuentran en la biblia, por ejemplo Amós 3:7 (profetas( Y Amós 8:11-12 (la gran apostasía) Y luego Hechos 3:21 (la restauración) Luego vi a alguno de los misioneros marcar las escrituras en su biblia. Son Jóvenes como nosotros. Uno tiene 26 años y el otro 24. Saben que Dios existe y tienen testimonios muy fuertes sobre eso. Ambos oraron antes de venir a españa que sintieron la necesidad de venir (mi compañero y yo estábamos pensando que quizás esa es la razón) NO quieren discutir ni nada. Solo quieren escuchar que enseñar la palabra de Dios. Son muy buenos amigos.

Les dimos un Libro de Mormón cada uno y les invitamos a orar a Dios acerca de Veracidad del Libro. Dijeron que sí. Vamos a visitarles esta semana.  Nos íbamos a ser tarde al piso y Tim nos dijo "por favor tomen mi bici. De hecho, QUIERO que tomen mi bici, devuelve la cuando puedan, tomen la" Explicamos que era una regla que no podríamos llevarla, Derek nos dijo, "si tienen que justificar lo mejor no hacer lo" Palabras muy sabias :) Decidimos no llevar la. Además aquí en españa, a las 22:05 es muy peligros en las calles. No conducen bien aquí. Corrimos hasta el piso que llegamos creo que era 4 minutos tarde. Y Cansados. El señor nos estaba ayudando. Con tanto caminar mi rodilla aveces me molesta y estaba un poco preocupado que iba a doler, pero es señor nos ayudó y nunca he corrido una distancia así tan rápido jaja :P

A ver, que mas... Ah! Escribí una nueva canción :) Es de la perspectiva de un investigador. La voy a grabar hoy y luego voy a intentar enviarla. Voy a añadir cosas a la canción cuando vuelva a casa, armonías, mas instrumentos y todo eso, pero por ahora suena bien :) Espero jeje.

Solo les quiero decir que SÉ que esta es la iglesia verdadera. Todo depende del Libro de Mormón. Si el Libro de Mormón es Verdadero, entonces Jesucristo es el Salvador del Mundo, José Smith fue un profeta (y Thomas S. Monson ES un profeta), La iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días es la iglesia verdadera, y el Señor volverá pronto (introducción de Libro de Mormón último párrafo). Muy pronto. Como dijo Jeffrey R. Holland "Se está haciendo Tarde"

Cualquier duda que tengan, Leen el Libro de Mormón. Es la clave de nuestra Religión. Si es verdadero, y lo es, esta obra es la obra mas grande del universo, y Dios la dirija, si no es verdadero (y otra vez, sí lo es) esta el la mentira mas grande de todo el mundo.

Un desafío para ustedes. Piden a los misioneros 5 Libros de Mormón, y reparten las esta semana dedican los y comparten sus testimonios sobre el Libro. Y luego traten de dar las referencias a los misioneros. Les prometo que van a ver milagros, Y quizás van a tener que pedir mas libros a los misioneros :)

Seville Oranges - Naranjas de Sevilla

It's possible that there will be a baptism on Saturday or Sunday. 

As ever, everything is well with Elder Read and yesterday they were expecting to have a quiet P-day. That's what he was hoping when he wrote, as they were really tired.  Last week they were concentrating on finding more investigators and on Sunday they were at the bishop's house, where they watched a video about family history with him and his family.  They are going to see whether they can use genealogy as a resource to find people to teach, and they hope it will work. 

Once more they have worked in the bishop's garden and he gave them masses of oranges to take back to their flat.  They are really, really red!!  And very sweet.  Mmmm - so lovelyl, he says. I'm salivating as I write this as he says they were really enjoying them.

On Sunday there were members from Huelva in the ward, presumably because it happened to be their ward conference and they were stake visitors. He really enjoyed the conference.

It seemed strange to Elder Read that in Spain they don't commemorate Armistice Day  but, of course, they weren't involved in either the First or Second World Wars.  He says he loves us heaps and he knows that the Lord looks after the families of all the missionaries, of which we can bear testimony.

On Sunday Elder Read and Elder Metcalf met three Baptist missionaries from Texas, and one from Louisiana.  They asked the Elders to speak to them in English, so they spoke to them for a little while and the truth was that they appeared to be interested, so they bore their testimonies about the Restoration, which interested those Baptist missionaries a lot.

Bueno todo esta bien por aquí. Hoy vamos a tener un p-day tranquilo. Espero. Estamos súper cansados. Las cosas van bien. Esta semana nos estamos concentrando en encontrar más investigadores. Ayer estuvimos en la casa del obispo. Vimos un vídeo con él y su familia sobre la historia familiar. Vamos a ver si podemos usar la como un recurso para encontrar a personas para enseñar. Espero que funciona. Fuimos a ser servicio en el campo del obispo. Él nos dio un montón de naranjas para llevar a casa. Están rojas, rojas pero rojas, y MUY dulces!. Mmmmm que rico :P . Las estamos disfrutando mucho jaja.

Ayer en la capilla también vi a algunos miembros de Huelva :D Tuvimos nuestra conferencia de Barrio, y era genial la verdad! 

Es muy raro estar aquí en España en esta época del año. Con el día de conmemoración en el Reino Unido, aquí, claro, no lo tienen.  (Eso es porque España no combato en las guerras mundiales. MR).

Bueno, les quiero y les amo un montón, sé que el señor les esta cuidando igual que cuida a todas las familias de los misioneros, de cual podemos dar testimonio.. 

Ayer encontramos a tres misioneros bautistas de Texas, y uno de Louisiana. Nos preguntaron si halábamos inglés jajá :P Hablamos con ellos un poco y la verdad es que parecen interesados. Les dimos nuestros testimonios de la restauración y les intereso mucho :)
